Spinning Today - 2013-02-19

Probably my favourite Death Records...surely the best Death lineup in my opinion.  I only really started to get into this album after my discovery of the band Cynic with their album Focus in 1993.  I found out that Paul Masvidal and Sean Reinhert were recording this album prior to focus..so I had to give it a try. It became one of my favourite Death record of all time.

More Iron Maiden

I've been a fan of Iron Maiden since I discovered them with Live After Death around 1986.  I'm not a huge fan of the era following the Fear Of The Dark album... but their first 8 albums are Metal classics.

Here's me with Iron Maiden posters and a few pictures of my Iron Maiden records.

Iron Maiden - 1980 - 2013 Re-Issue

Killer - 1981 - 2013 Picture Disc Re-Issue

Maiden Japan - 1981 (Live EP)

The Number Of The Beast - 1982 Canada LP and 2013 Re-Issue

Piece Of Mind - 2013 Re-Issue

Powerslave - 1984 (LP + Tape) and 2013 Re-issue (My Favourite)

Iron Maiden - Somewhere Back In Time - 1986 - Canada - Capitol Records

Some tapes:

Iron Maiden - Live After Death

This was my first contact with Iron Maiden.  I remember buying this tape from a friend of mine.  As many people I'm sure, the first thing that caught my attention was the album art with this zombie on the cover (at the time I didn't know who was Eddie). Also, for this specific record, I was surprised that they were able to fit so many songs on a single tape!

I still remember putting this in my tape player and hearing the intro followed by Aces High... In an instant I was hooked.  This tape became my favourite tapes for months. I would carry it everywhere with me.  One day, I went to a friend of mine and he had it on 2LP.  I was so impressed by the booklet and all the pictures that came on the inserts of this gatefold release. Obviously, I had to get it on LP as well!  For obvious reason, I had to buy the studio recording for the album for this tour... and Powerslave became my favourite record of this band.

And then came the recent re-issue (2013). I couldn't resist to buy it again.  This records is still one of my favourite Live album of all time.

Here they are (as you can see, I still have my original tape):

Virgin Steele

Now Playing....

This one is a band that comes from the New York scene 1981-1982.  This is the first pressing released on their own label before being signed by Music For Nations (this was the first release of the MFN label - MFN1) I recently found out some known band would have sent them a letter in 1982 :)

From http://www.virgin-steele.com/bio.html
" After the release of 'US METAL-II', the flood gates opened. More people knew about us, more fans were writing, so we felt that we should press up the demo/album ourselves to see what would happen. The first pressing of 5,000 copies sold out in a matter of weeks. I drove boxes of VS "1"records to distributors all over the East Coast of the States (If this wasn't a great way to learn how the music business actually works, huh?!!). The second pressing of 5,000 also sold out. Things looked great, we were sparking interest in record companies, and our fan mail was becoming more interesting. Two letters in particular stand out, one from a young band like ourselves, who were from Seattle. Their name was - QUEENSRYCHE. The other, from California, also a band, who called themselves METALLICA.

The best offer from a record company came from an English label called, MUSIC FOR NATIONS. We signed with them in 1982; we were their very first release, MFN 1. We were later joined on this label by METALLICA, WASP, MANOWAR and MERCYFUL FATE. It was a very exciting time, it was the New Wave of American and British Heavy Metal, magazines like KERRANG and METAL FORCES in England were giving us great reviews. In the USA, we began supporting many great bands like MOTORHEAD, KROKUS, RIOT, THE RODS and MANOWAR, with whom we later did a very enjoyable German tour in 1987."
