Now playing - 2014-09-29

Now that I have a proper quadraphonic setup, it was really a blast to play some very nice quadraphonic LPs. I think one of the artist that embraced the quadraphonic capabilities in the 70s is Santana. After a proper calibration of my setup (by the way...how freaking cool is it that Popular Science released a record in 1973 to calibrate your quadraphonic (SQ) system!?!?  ) I played this amazing Santana album....in all its quadraphonic glory!

Metallica - Cliff Burton - RIP - 1986-09-27

I know it will sound "cliché" and "cheesy"...but you have no idea how much the next record I'm playing had an impact on my life. I still remember the day that my friend brought his walkman in high school... and came to me saying..."Man, you have to listen to this. The bassist of that band died last week while he was on tour..that's a shame because this band is AMAZING". It was the first week of October 1986 and Cliff Burton had passed away the week before. In fact, yesterday was the 28th anniversary of its death.

The first song I heard was Welcome Home (Sanitarium)... and I was immediately hooked! Needless to say that I wanted to listen more... The second song I heard was "Battery"... I still have a hard time believing what I heard at the time...and I'm sill amazed today when I hear that song. Metallica became my favourite band ever...and it has been my favourite band ever since.

Fast forward a little less than 28 years later, after what seems to be a sequence of very surrealistic events, I had the chance to watch Metallica...on their stage...and I've had the opportunity to introduce a song...in front of 45000 people. That song was... "Battery". All I have to say is that life can be so amazing! Some people says that I was lucky...but I like to think that luck didn't have anything to do with this

In my opinion, one of the best "Metal" singers... John Bush in Armored Saints - Rising Fear. I had the chance to see them opening for Metallica in their 30th Anniversary private concert.

If you are of my generation and you live in North America, you most likely knew the Columbia Record club. Subscribing to this club would give you 11 or 12 cassettes for a penny.  Being a teenager with a very limited budget, Columbia house really helped start my music collection.

This was one of the first tape I bought that was part of the "penny batch". While crated digging yesterday, I was quite happy to find a nice copy of that one on vinyl.
